Money Management for for Vulnerable Seniors

Senior Services offers money management services to Alexandria’s seniors in need of help to pay bills, balance checkbooks, arrange for direct deposit of social security checks, and protect their income

Alexandria has over 1,800 seniors age 85 and older. At this age, sometimes the ability to manage bills, checking accounts, bank reconciliations, tax payments, and more begins to become worrisome. Bills get lost or forgotten. Bank deposits aren’t made. And remembering to pay important things, like taxes, becomes more difficult. In addition, avoiding outside (and sometimes even family) predators is very important at this stage of life.

For other seniors, who have the capacity to learn how to manage their own affairs, but have never had the responsibility to do so, taking on such new responsibilities can seem daunting.

That’s where Money Management services for Alexandria’s seniors can help. We can organize bills, balance checkbooks, reconcile bank statements, help prepare a budget, and establish various financial accounts when needed.

New Income sources    Bank Reconciliations

Some seniors need help in finding additional sources of income in order to be able to remain in their homes. This is another area in which the money manager can provide expert help, such as evaluating whether a reverse mortgage might be appropriate for a person.

The program targets those people who have the greatest economic and social need. It should be noted that the program and its money management professional do not offer investment, trusts, tax advice or tax preparation.
